Toilet Repair in Salem, OH

Salem is a town of older homes, 78% of them built before 1990, where a little over a third of households are renting.

Short version

72% of occupied homes in Salem are owner-occupied and 28% are rented, which is close enough to even that the first question is which you are. A landlord is generally responsible for a fixture in a tenancy; an owner is not. Housing there is 78% pre-1990, which dates the house rather than the fixture.

Tank and Bowl is a referral service, not a contractor. We connect homeowners with independent contractors. Contractors are required to hold whatever credential their state or municipality demands. Every state page sets out who licenses plumbers there and where to check, so you can confirm before work begins. We carry out no work, we sell no fixtures, we do not set prices, and we never charge homeowners anything — the contractors in our network pay us when we route them a call.

Who this page is for in Salem

Salem splits roughly 72% owning to 28% renting across 10,477 occupied homes, so this page has two audiences. If you own, the decision is yours. If you rent, the toilet is almost certainly not your repair and the useful action is reporting it properly.

What the age of Salem’s housing suggests

Housing in Salem is mostly older than the standard: 78% of it went up before 1990. A toilet fitted when those homes were built used at least twice what a current one does.

Whether the original is still there is a different question, and the only way to settle it is to look at the fixture.

What is actually wrong with it

Most calls are one of five things, and the useful first step is deciding which. Three of them — running, a weak flush and no flush at all — live inside the tank. The other two, a leak at the base and a rocking fixture, are underneath it and are related to each other.

On an older fixture that is being lifted anyway, ask what the difference is between putting this one back and setting a new one down. Frequently the work is the same and only the part differs, which is the one moment when replacement is worth thinking about.

If the dye test pointed at the flapper, that is a part, not a fixture.Worth saying on the call, because it changes what somebody arrives with. We connect you to a contractor covering your area and you are never charged. Whatever wants a plumber in Salem can be raised when you call.
